There hasn't been band for a long time , hope you guys brought your instruments back to practice . In case you guys are wondering why we have not been having band , its cause teachers are busy so there's no one to supervise us . The next band lesson will be held on the last week of the holiday . All band members... This is the critical week. I want full band for this 2 weeks. Whatever appointment or tuition please cancel or SHIFT it to after SYF. SYF is only once in every 2 years. Whatever other school programme please ask for excuse from your teacher. Punishment will be given for absentie. No excuse for being absence or late.

TOMORROW wear half uniform to school which means for boys please wear PE t-shirts and band pants wif black marching shoes and black socks for girls wear PE t-shirts and band skirt wif black marching shoes and white socks.Wait for eric in the band room tomorrow morning. Pack your things for the camp tomorrow. ATTENDANCE IS COMPULSORY!

Well, let accept the fact that we ain't good for the performance today. Let's not think about losing face or whatever. For what i think today is not about how bad or how good we play. It's about building up our confident. Getting used to a different environment.
We were shy and nervous. And dun dare to play coz we some how lose our concentration ( i guess). When come to a different environment, the feeling change, harder to breath, heart beat faster, breath deeper, lips dried, feel so tense, hands and legs shaked, scared of playing wrong note.....blah blah blah.
Alright this is like first time standing on the stage in front of the school and try to talk about some topic. The feeling is the same. We are not used to it...... Not at all...... We need more practice on this as well. Beside music and technique, this is another major thing that we have to overcome it. Well this is to say we need to go for more exchanges???? I dun know.
After listening to the CD....yes it was sucky... but i can spot a lot of mistake that i made. Comparing with other band playing the same piece ( overture no.1). Well it can help me a lot to know my weaknesses and of course know where to work on it and improve further.

Ok, band members. Do not blame each other or yourself. We must have a positive attitude. Learn from our mistake and improve ourselves further. The time is very disadvantage for us. If you want to achieve something great and have a good feeling about it later on. work hard now. You can do it. We can do it. I can do it. For this last 3 weeks. WE MUST REALLY FOCUS. No time to play around already. We also must have perseverance. Remember do not give up and say " i cannot play". Keep practising and FOCUS and CONCENTRATE when Mr Tay teaching. How well you play or how soon you can achieve it, it's depend on how much you focus and concentrate.

Please have a good rest over the weekend and think about what happend today. Don't forget to do the reflection on the chat box.
Reflect on Technique, Music, and yourself. state how you can improve on it.

Some feedback for the band.
Hope this will help to improve.

Trumpet section tend to rush. Please look at the conductor. your seating arrangement is not facing the conductor. You were like playing on ur own. Adjust the stand a bit higher so that you can see the conductor. ALL THESE APPLY TO EVERYBODY AS WELL.
Trombone need to play a bit louder. Do not scared of playing wrong note. Play with confident.
Euphonium, do not rush at B. Look at the conductor. Tap ur foot to get the beat. And dun forget to emphasize on the accent and staccato.
Horn, watch your pitch. Eric you need to work on high F. do not over play. Adjust dynamic with the band and not too loud. Write on the score to remind yourself to BREATH!!!
Yong Su, Pay attention to Mr Tay. Get ready = mouthpiece in your mouth 3 beats before you play. Some part ( after F ) you play too soft. I'm sitting about 3 chairs away from you hardly hear you sometime. Clarify with Mr Tay about how loud and how soft. Don't break the reed again please.
To everyone, Don't forget to breath.
Breath in more air support.
Do not lean back on the chair. Must always sit on the edge of the chair. Have good posture. Good posture = better sound produced.
BRING A PENCIL FOR EVERY PRACTISES. AND WRITE DOWN WHERE YOU SUPPOSE TO BREATH AND WHERE YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE CONDUCTOR.
Percussion, don't forget this ( > ).
Timpani, do not scared of having to pay for the timpani. please hit harder. it won't hurt. If you get frighten by the sound. plug something in ur ear might help.
Amirah,.....pull up ur sock. you have a lot to catch up.

today's rehearsal was not so good but can be improve.. (: again,, we received good comments by the principal.. we will be having full dress rehearsal on friday the 13th which is two weeks from now.. after rehearsal we practice in the hall to know how our sound were.. practice till 12.50pm n headed back to the band room to keep our instrument and help out with the percussion instruments.. after all those,, we had a debrief.. next tuesday there will be band practice from 4pm to 6.30pm.. again, section leaders please call your members to come.. on 13th n 14th march,, there will be a 2 days 1 night camp.. more details will be inform on tuesday..

band practice as per normal but today the sec 1's came.. main band had to do sectionals while sir handle the junior band.. after sectionals we had full band until 6.15pm.. had briefing for tomorrow's practice and rehearsal.. main band tomorrow report in PE t-shirt.. percussion please report at the band room by 7.30am for parade rehearsal before the actual rehearsal.. while the other sections please report by 8am sharp.. section leaders do call your members to come.. try not to be late!

there WONT be any band practice tomorrow (24/2/2009) due to the common test.. practice will resume on friday (27/2/2009).. 1.30pm to 6.30pm.. dont be late.. section leaders,, please call your members to come.. all the sec 1 and new members must report to band room at 1:30pm. today nid to be in school at 8pm and practiced a book called chorale please practice long notes and try to play with 1 breath every bar which sir says we also played songs like The Explorers of Orions, The Flight of The Thunderbird and As the Dawn Breaks. Play those songs as their rhythm is almost the same as overture. those sections which sir tell us to practice the parts which we nid to master, spent your time practicing it tuesday practice will be informed. JY guys those who wan order DVD for 10 jan concert mbrosia pls sms eric or tell him.

today need to report to band room by 1pm due to the awards day rehearsal.. did warm-up n practice a few songs.. nt long after,, been called up to the hall fer rehearsal.. arranged the chairs n settled ourselves.. had sound check n the rehearsal start.. first item was the choir followed by the band.. we played 3 pieces,, st petersburg march,, dedication, celebration n march n rockology..
teachers will choose the best two.. so we played the 3 pieces.. after playing,, sir went down n talk to the P n VP.. VP seems so happy with our conduct.. (: after all the talking,, mrs haniff went up to the stage n gave us GOOD comments.. yeah!! she said instead of choosing 2 pieces,, they wan us to play all 3 pieces.. it was a good news fer us.. after rehearsal,, we had half an hour break,,
n carry on practice our set piece.. practice till 6pm den dismissed.. will be having band practice tomorrow.. 8-1pm..band members do attend.. (:
